Everyone knows Ron Boyd, or if they don't know him they know his work -- he has been instrumental in improving the facilities at Camp Dittmer.
Last week, Ron's father Bill passed away. Our heart goes out to Ron -- he is someone who has been so dedicated to family and Scouting.
Like father like son....Bill was a great family man and Scouter like his son and many of our longtime scouts and scouters know him well.
He joined Scouting in the late 1930's with Troop 26 in Avon, earning 2nd Class Scout. During his military service, he served in several positions with Coronado Council and Western Alaska Council. After retiring from the Army in 1966 and returning to the Avon area with his wife, Doris, and children (Robert, Ronald, Rhonda; followed by William F. Boyd, born in 1969) he and his wife were active volunteers with Genesee Council.
In addition to receiving Vigil Honors in 1974, in 1980 he and his wife Doris were the first husband and wife team in the BSA NE Region to be awarded the Silver Beaver. Bill and Doris served as Cub Leader Trainers for several years. Bill also served as District Commissioner for Letchworth District for several years.
