2008 Barber B. Conable Recipient

Our 2008 recipient, Eagle Scout Brandon P. Lewis, sets a fine example for all of us.
Brandon takes his responsibilities as role model and mentor seriously. His troop leaders have taken note that wherever Brandon is, there is usually a group of younger Scouts looking up to him. At camp he can often be found leading activities and songs or helping a younger Scout to overcome a bout of homesickness. His easy-going nature and extensive Scouting knowledge have made him a favorite mentor within his troop and elsewhere.

Within Scouting, he has served his local troop as Senior Patrol Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster. He has also taken on larger responsibilities as an officer with the Order of the Arrow Lodge and as a member of the camp staff at Camp Dittmer and Camp Sam Wood.
His Eagle Scout project involved the construction of a boat launch at Genesee County Park’s DeWitt Recreation Area. This project has provided a lasting resource consisting of a boat launch and fishing access facilities for the entire community.

In addition to his Scouting resume, Brandon has taken advantage of his high school years to become engaged in a diverse and challenging group of school activities covering the full spectrum of scholarship and athleticism.  Academically, he is a member of the Mock Trial & Scholar Bowl Teams, a recipient of a Presidential Academic Award, a member of the National Honor Society, and is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s High School Students

Musically, he has played trumpet in the school band and musicals, participated in All County Band and Solofest, and at Scout functions.

A member of his school’s Cross Country team, Brandon has also distinguished himself as a Tae-kwon-do instructor, a discipline in which he has earned his Black Belt and competitive awards.

In addition to his school, Scouting, and community activities, Brandon’s entrepreneurial spirit led to him found his own business. Since 2006 he has been co-owner with his father of Imagination Industries, a custom laser-engraving business.

Brandon’s achievements and well-rounded citizenship led him to be chosen as a participant in the annual American Legion Boys’ State program. After his high school graduation, Brandon will enroll in St. John Fischer College this fall.

Scholar, athlete, mentor, citizen, and Eagle Scout, the Iroquois Trail Council takes great pride in recognizing Brandon P. Lewis of Troop 650, Alexander as the 2008 Barber B. Conable Distinguished Eagle Scout.
